Hungerford National Forest - Covid-19 Update (April 23, 2020)
Update from USFS:
The Huron-Manistee National Forest is delaying the opening of all of our campgrounds and recreation sites “until further notice”. This was done to make sure that we can align with the state closure and be able to adapt to any future changes. As of right now we are hopeful that we will be able to have everything open by Memorial Day but this will depend on state and federal guidelines as we move forward. We know this is not the news that everyone wants to hear, but we need to take the health and safety of the public and our employees into account.
The contractor that was doing the “daylighting” (road clearing and widening) along the road was deemed non-essential and has stopped operations until the state order is lifted or lessened. This will delay the completion of the project but when they return, they will finish south to north so that we can get access to the campground and have it opened as soon as possible. Until that time the parking area on 13 Mile will be the best option to access the trail system.
As we get closer to opening and are making progress, we will be sure to keep Hungerford guests informed.
Thank you for your support and patience.
